In this ‘make and take’ meeting you will learn how to make five single sheet books.

The kit cost is $2.00

Please bring your bone folder and scissors. You may also want to bring a glue stick,markers, and embellishments.

8th Annual Houston Vintage Book, Postcard & Paper Festival, Oct 22-23

8^th Annual Houston Vintage Book, Postcard & Paper Festival is less than a month away!

This year’s show promises to be the most diverse yet in terms of new merchandise. We have added several new dealers and are excited to welcome back many familiar faces as well. There will be something for everyone in every price range. You can also bring your personal collections of postcards, books, and paper items for sale or appraisal by many of our expert dealers.

This year’s show will be held Saturday October 22 from 10-6 and Sunday October 23 from 10-4.

Admission is $3.50 per person and is good for both show days. Children are FREE with a paid adult.

You can find additional show information including a current dealer roster, directions and a map to The Stafford Centre, hotel-motel information, and a listing of customer and dealer show “wants” at our show website www.houstonshow.com.

October 22-23 at The Stafford Centre. Come see why this is one of Southeast Texas’ most unique annual events!

Book into Portfolfio – Oct. 6

Handsome book folios with flaps - made by Lee Steiner

Re-purpose an old book into a useful portfolio case!

Thursday, Oct. 6, 6-8 pm. Museum of Printing History, limit 20 spaces available!

Do you love making old books you find at thrift shops or used book sales into new other things?

At the October HBAG meeting, Lee Steiner will show you some of her “Deja New” handy portfolio cases and we will make one together.

These fun folders are great for your daily ‘to-do’ pile of papers, keeping letterhead and envelopes organized, or as a unique gift with stationery or photos enclosed.

Lee will provide you a kit containing:

1 hardcover book measuring approx. 9” x 12” (large enough to hold 8 ½” x 11” papers) and with a spine width measuring between ½” and ¾”. 1” is okay but less stable.
Papers for flaps and inside spine area.
Ribbon for the tie closure.
Self-adhesive clear corner pockets.
Cost of Kit: $5 (includes book)

Please bring your own tool kit containing:

Cutting mat, x-acto or craft knife, metal ruler
Pencil, bone folder, scissors
Chisel and Hammer, if you have one (for making ribbon slits in the covers. I’ll bring mine to share. I use ½” and ¾” wide chisels.)

IF you’d like to provide your OWN book to repurpose into a portfolio, look closely at the size details above. If you will be bringing your own, I can sell you a kit, minus a book, for a few bucks cheaper ($3?). I will be collecting appropriate books over the next few weeks from my many special sources so I hope to have a variety. I won’t pay more than $1.99 for the books we use. I know… I’m cheap!
